CADET INTERNS

Junior Lifeguard Cadet Intern positions have been made available through a partnership with the Long Beach Unified School District. This opportunity is available for Long Beach Unified School District high school students who have completed at least one year of the Long Beach Junior Lifeguard Cadet Program. Interns will have opportunities to learn more about careers in public safety, work in a professional environment, and develop a better understanding of the operations of the Long Beach Junior Lifeguard Program.

Job Details

  • Assist JG Team with administrative work out of Fire Headquarters and JG office

  • Assist Junior Lifeguard Instructors during JG Prep Classes throughout the spring

  • Opportunities to learn about different facets of Marine Safety (ie. Rescue Boat tours, station tours, dispatch shadowing)

  • Participate in weekly physical conditioning

  • Use the knowledge gathered from the internship to complete a group project 

Application Requirements

  • Applicant must be a student of LBUSD

  • Applicant must have completed one summer of the Long Beach Junior Lifeguard Cadet Program

  • Interested Cadets must email their Resume and Letter of Interest to LBJG@longbeach.gov, addressed to Sergeant Farnell

Ashlyn Corbo

I'm a senior at Wilson High School. I've been in the LBJG program for 6 years and I'm looking forward to expanding my experience and knowledge throughout the Cadet Internship. One of my most recent accomplishments is that I became valedictorian at my high school, which means that I've held a 4.0 GPA for all semesters attended at Wilson.

If you could do a lifeguard exchange anywhere in the world, where would you go? Italy

What is your favorite marine animal? An Orca, they can sleep with one eye open and they're amazing hunters

Brittany Mendoza

I am a senior at Millikan High school. I've been a part of JG for almost 5 years now. I look forward is learning more about the LBJG Program and am excited to help and communicate with my community.  One of my recent accomplishments is coaching the girls volleyball team at Cubberley k-8 school and got second place in there division.

Jacob Chavez

I'm currently a junior at Millikan high school and I enjoy playing soccer there and at my club. I also enjoy playing the piano and have done four years of JG's. This is my first year as a cadet intern and I look forward most to the workouts and improving my weaknesses. A recent accomplishment that I am proud of is receiving the opportunity to play soccer in Spain in February of 2023.

Julia Gillott

I am a junior at Wilson High School and I have been a part of the Junior Lifeguard program for 6 years, including one year as a cadet. I am most looking forward to learning more about the LBJG program through this internship. One of my more recent accomplishments was finishing the first semester of my junior year with a 4.0 grade point average.

Paige Jorgensen

I am a junior at Wilson High School and am a part of the varsity swim and water polo teams. I was a JG for 6 years, including 1 year as a cadet, and an intern last year. I enjoy the internship because it allows me to work with the LBJG community, which has been a huge part of my life, while also learning valuable skills that will help me pursue a career in lifeguarding. One of my most recent accomplishments in the past year was winning 3rd place at Moore League in the 100 Breastroke.

Bridget Ball

I am currently a junior at Millikan High School in the Quest pathway.  I was a Junior Lifeguard for 6 years, one of which I was a Cadet, and I am most looking forward to gaining more knowledge about the LBJG program, while also giving back to the community.  One of my most recent accomplishments that I am proud of is finishing the school year with all A's and E's.
