Thank you for your interest in the 2023 LBJG Summer Program! Please DO NOT register for the program until AFTER your participant passes the swim test at one of the tryouts. If you have a returning Junior Guard (participated in the 2022 Summer Program), you do NOT need to attend a tryout.

About the event
Tryouts will take place at Belmont Pool between 8:00AM-12:00PM. There are not assigned times, and you are welcome to arrive anytime between 8AM and noon.
The Long Beach Junior Lifeguard program requires all NEW prospective Junior Guards attend a tryout and pass the LBJG swim test BEFORE registering for the summer program. The swim test involves swimming 100 yards in less than 2 minutes.
Returning Junior Guards do NOT have to complete the swim test. Returning Junior Guards are those who participated in the previous year's JG program (2022). JG's who take a year off are not considered returning, and must re-test.
This swim test is a safety standard, and there are no exceptions. If you think your child may need some extra help before attempting the swim test, we recommend looking into our FREE JG Prep Class (more information at this link).
Please remember to have your child dressed in their swimsuit and ready to go! Don’t forget to bring a towel, goggles, and we recommend a cap for any children with long hair.
